CONTEMPORARY ARBOGAST  FAMILY  TREE  ZIP FILE

This is an old DOS 16 bit program contained in a zip file.  Once downloaded (click above), put the zip file into a new subdirectory (folder) named, FAMILY, on your C: drive, and unzip the files there,   The program contains 1,345 Arbogast family connections.  It's operated with keyboard strokes that are simple and  clearly defined.  It should run okay on 32 bit Windows operating systems such as in Windows 98, xp, or Vista.  Virtual xp in Windows 7 Professional might run the program.  To execute the program you must use the DOS command, [PASRUN.COM FAMILY].  The shortcut file, [Family Tree.pif] is set up to do this automatically.

To run the program on a 64 bit operating system (Windows 7, 8 and 10), you'll need a little program called DOSBox.  It Works!  Download it from  DOSBox.com.  It's Free!

After installed, hit the DOSBox shortcut icon, [DOSBox.exe] and two little DOS type windows come up.  You'll see the [Z:\>] prompt blinking and waiting for a DOS type command.  First type [MOUNT A C:\FAMILY]  (A could be substituted with any letter) and hit the ENTER key.  Now you will see the [Z:\>] prompt begin blinking again. But now, type [A:] and hit ENTER.  At the [A:\] prompt type [PASRUN FAMILY] and hit the ENTER key again.  You should see a new DOS window with "BIG BLUE DISK Presents: . . . . " and "Family Tree Main Menu".  If you do . . . YOU'RE IN !!!  Make it Full Screen by hitting the ALT-ENTER keys simultaneously.  This can be toggled back and forth.

Okay . . . at the Main Menu, hit the R key (read).  On the next screen at the Name (<ENTER> = FAMILY): blinking prompt, type ARBOGAST and hit the ENTER key.  Now you're back at the Main Menu but ready to go.  Hit the L key (look up), then the S key (output to screen) and then the N key (for a key word search for a name).  Try me as an example.  So at the blinking cursor, type FREDERICK and hit the ENTER key.  Frederick comes up in another DOS window, but it's not me!  So, hit the N key (next).  Keep repeating throught all of the Fredericks until you get me, Frederick Lowell Arbogast.  So you've got it by now and you should explore the other key stroke  functionality.  But let me warn you . . . trying to make modifications can be very hazardous to the data base.  I suggest you make a back up copy of of the zip files that you unzipped.  If you want to make changes please contact me for help   If you have questions or inquires, send me an email at arbo@comcast.net
